New school year, new time for Morning Prayer

A new school year means some new patterns. For 2013-14, Morning Prayer has moved to 10 a.m.

The first day of Morning Prayer coincides with the first day of classes -- Tuesday, Aug. 27th. The 20-minute daily service is offered Monday through Friday when classes are in session. Morning Prayer is a pause in the day when students, faculty and staff are invited to come together at the Chapel for a time of community prayer. The theme for the year is the Beloved Community.

Each day of the week has a different style. This fall's schedule is:

  • Monday - Morning worship with a speaker from one of the departments or colleges.
  • Tuesday - Prayer around the Cross, a contemplative form of prayer, with a focus on praying for the people of our campus. (Don't be surprised if you run into Pastor Char or Pastor Jim around campus, asking if we can pray for whatever is going on in your life.)
  • Wednesday - Service of Matins, one of the most-cherished services on campus. Students are also welcome to sing in the Matins Choir.
  • Thursday - Taize Prayer Around the Cross, with an international focus, as we pray for our brothers and sisters around the globe.
  • Friday - A high-energy service, featuring music led by the chapel's outstanding all-student Praise Band.

Morning Prayer is one of 11 opportunities to pray at 10 o’clock six days a week this fall at the Chapel. Also new this fall is Gloria Christi Prayer, at 10 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays in the smaller Gloria Christi Chapel.
