Summer Greetings from the Office of Residential Life!

The Residential Life staff is very excited for your return to our community. It is our mission to promote and develop a sense of place and community for our students within our residential program. We are happy to welcome you to our residential family and look forward to working with you this next year.

As you are aware, Valparaiso University believes a student’s residential environment is an integral component of their education and affirms the educational benefits inherent in the residential aspect of the undergraduate experience. The residential experience complements the academic mission by providing a dynamic environment where living and learning interconnect. Furthermore, students are progressively empowered through nurturing, supporting, and challenging opportunities through the various housing options in which they reside during their time at Valpo.

Below are links to some important information about opening for the Fall 2013.  Please review all of the information.

If you have any questions, please contact the Residential Life Office using the contact information located in the top right box on this web page.

Sincerely,

Signiture

Assistant Dean of Students for Residential Life

Move-In Day Information

New & Transfer Students:

The residence halls will open for the Fall 2013 semester on August 24th.  All new students will be assigned move-in appointment time based on their Fall housing assignment. The time range for these move-in appointments will be between 8am-1pm on August 24th. A student’s move-in appointment time & further move-in instructions will be sent via email in mid-July.

When you arrive on campus, please report to your assigned building to check-in. Student Volunteers and University staff will be there to assist you and your family in unloading your vehicle.
If you are not able to arrive on campus on this day, please contact our office.

Returning Students:

Your move-in begins on August 24, 2013 starting at 3pm. Please do not arrive to campus prior to 3pm. There will be over 900 new students and their 1800 parents & siblings moving in the morning.  You will find the afternoon / early evening the best time to move into campus housing. Also, please note that you may also move-in on Sunday or Monday starting at 10am each day.

As usual, when you arrive on campus, please report to your assigned building to check-in. If you are not able to arrive on campus by Monday, August 26, please contact our office.

Early Arrival Housing

Due to staffing and facility limitations, we will not allow students to move-in early to campus housing unless they have been approved by the Office of Residential Life in advance. Below is a online web form that individual students may complete to request permission to move into campus housing prior to the official move-in day of August 24, 2013. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Only students whom are involved in a required, 'official' University purpose or event will be approved for early arrival.
  2. NO student may move into their Fall 2013 campus housing assignment prior August 18, 2013.
  3. Any approved student arriving prior to Wednesday, August 21, 2013 will be subject to a $25 per student, per day charge.

Student Athletes:

Student Athletes who are involved in a Fall sport that requires their training to begin prior to the official move-in date will be placed in temporary housing until their regular room assignments have been prepared for their arrival. Your coaches will be in touch with you directly about move-in dates, times, and locations. You do not need to complete the online request form.

Other Campus Groups:

As a service to those student groups and organization whom are required to return to campus for essential functions related to opening the campus for the 2013-2014 academic year and various Fall Welcome Back activities, the Office of Residential Life will offer early arrival housing for students who will be living on campus for the next academic year. If your program does not involve itself with activities related to opening weekend, then it is expected that those students will move-in during our normal check-in time, which begins on Saturday, August 24, 2013.

Please note that any group or student arriving prior to Wednesday, August 21, 2013 will be subject to a per student, per day charge.
