Spring 2015 Closing

The residence halls close on WEDNESDAY, MAY 13th at noon. 

Students MUST VACATE the buildings by this time.

 All residents must checkout within 24-hours of their last final exam or Wednesday at Noon, whichever is earlier. 

 

Spring Closing Information:

Checking Out:
Every resident must check out of their room. There are two methods of checking out of their rooms students may choose--Traditional or Express Check-Out. 

Before checking out, you must dismantle and remove all lofts and custom built shelving, reassemble beds, and return all room furniture to its original configuration. Clarify the exact room set up with your RA.  Bring all trash, boxes, wood, etc. to the dumpster's.  Do not leave it in the hallways, bathroom, stairwells, etc.  Students leaving items in the hallway will be fined. 

An RLC will complete a follow-up inspection of your room after your departure and will make a final decision regarding any billing for damages and/or missing items, as well as any charges for improper checkout.  Any charges will be outlined in a letter that will be sent to you in June. 

 

Storage:

Limited storage is available for residents who are international students or who live 500 miles or more from the University. Everything must be stored in a plastic container no larger than 30-gallons.

24-Hour Quiet Hours:

24-HOUR QUIET HOURS WILL BEGIN AT 10:00 P.M. ON TUESDAY, MAY 5th.  Please show consideration and respect for residents who need a quiet study atmosphere while preparing for final exams.  During the hours of 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. each evening, quiet hours will be relaxed in order for students to disassemble lofts and complete other noisy moving tasks.  Please observe common courtesy during these hours, as others will be studying for their exams.  A $5.00 fine will be assessed and possible judicial referral for violations of quiet hours during finals week.

Extended Stay Housing

EXTENDED STAY HOUSING QUALIFICATIONS

All students are expected to vacate their university housing by Noon on Wednesday, May 13th.  Students who meet the following criteria may apply for extended stay housing in their building:

  • International or INTERLINK Students
  • VU athletes competing in a season sport
  • Current senior graduating in May 2015
  • Sibling of a graduating senior who also attends VU
  • Students participating in graduation ceremonies (choral, band, orchestra, ushers, etc.)
  • Students registered for Summer Session I, who are staying in University-owned summer housing
  • Student workers whom are essential for campus operations

Students ARE NOT automatically eligible for extended stay housing if they hold an on or off campus job that is not directly associated with a credit-bearing academic program.

If you do not meet any of the above criteria for Extended Stay Housing, you may submit a request based on an "Other" type of reason. PLEASE NOTE that if you are approved for Extended Stay Housing for reasons outside of the above criteria, you will be charged a $25 per night fee for utilizing University Extended Stay Housing.

 

EXTENDED STAY HOUSING APPLICATION DEADLINE

To apply for Extended Stay Housing, log onto Housing Self-Service (via DataVU).  After confirming log in information, click the "Applications" tab on the Housing Self-Service home page.

The Office of Residential Life must receive applications for Extended Stay Housing by 5:00 PM on Monday, May 4th, 2015.  Additionally, students who do not properly sign up for extended stay housing by the posted deadlines and need accommodations may also have to pay a late application fee ($25) to receive permission to reside on campus.

Please remember that completion of this application does not guarantee permission for extended stay. If your request for extended stay is approved, you will be notified via your Valpo e-mail address with instructions regarding move out.  All residents must be moved out by Monday, May 18th, 2015 at 9 AM.

To request an Extended Stay after the deadline, email ResLife@valpo.edu with your ID number, reason for stay, and the date of your departure.



Summer Housing Application for 2015 is available!

The Office of Residential Life is excited to offer Summer Housing for Summer 2015!

 

On-campus housing is available for both male and female students as space permits. Students must be registered in a credit-bearing academic course while residing in summer housing. Uptown East Apartments will be used for Summer Housing.

Apartment amenities include air-conditioning, internet, cable, furnished living room with television, kitchen with all major appliances, washer/dryer unit and private bedroom with full-sized bed and private bathroom.  Apartments are provided with the necessary furniture, but students must supply their own bedding, pillows, towels, kitchen utensils, pots, pans, etc. 

Summer Housing Information and Dates:

Session I: Monday, May 18-Saturday, June 27

  • Students residing in Summer Housing for Session I need to complete an Extended Stay Application to stay in their current housing from May 13-May 18.  Extended Stay Applications will be available until May 4 at 5 PM via Housing Self-Service.
  • All students residing in Summer I housing will reside in temporary housing in Brandt Hall, for approximately 2 weeks, until space is ready in Uptown East Apartments.
  • If a student is only in summer housing for Session I, the student must check out of their residence hall space by Noon on Saturday, June 27.

Session II: Sunday, June 28-Saturday, August 8

  • Students residing in Summer II housing ONLY can check in starting at Noon on Sunday, June 28.
  • All students will be expected to move out of summer housing by Noon on August 8.

 

Current students can access the Summer Housing Application via their HOUSING SELF-SERVICE (accessible via DataVU).
