A Timeline for Your College Search

College is the best investment most people ever make. With a college degree, you’ll have more job choices, more job security, and higher pay raises than your peers without degrees. Taking the right classes, earning good grades, and participating in school activities will put you on track for selecting the right college and career.

September

  • Dedicate yourself to getting great grades. The grades you achieve during your junior year are very important for college applications. Keep studying.
  • Consult your guidance counselor about taking the PSAT and PLAN.
  • Attend college fairs and college receptions in your region.

December

  • Receive your results of the PSAT and PLAN. Meet with your guidance counselor to discuss your strengths on these exams and to prepare for the SAT and ACT.

February

  • Check out college websites. Create a list of colleges to investigate. Talk to representatives from Valparaiso University and your list of other colleges and universities. Ask plenty of questions.

March

  • Sign up for the spring SAT and ACT.
  • Attend college fairs and college receptions in your region.
  • Continue to talk to representatives from your list of colleges and from some other universities.

Summer

  • Visit Valparaiso University and several other colleges. Take campus tours, talk with college admission counselors and meet faculty. Schedule your Valpo visit.
