STRESS

Between Spring Break, Easter Break, and weekend breaks, I havent been keeping up with my entries. Sorry, but the one word that can explain it is "Stress".
personal problems, midterms, financial aid deadlines, housing appointments, advisor appointmemts, work and school work all adds up to the stress you deal with your first year, and maybe the rest of your college career. With all of these components of things on your mind, you have to prioritize what is most important.
In my case, I chose to cut my hours down at work, so I can focus more on my school work. The thing about this was that my manager was so open and okay about it that she gave me the days I requested to work. Because of this schedual change, I am finally getting a chance to do my homework without rushing, go to study sessions at night for Chemistry and Calculus, and eat dinner with my friends. I have noticed that I have had more energy to do work and now workout.
Sometimes, you have to sacrifice in order to make everything more managable. When you are most stressed, you have to have an escape where you can go, and for me, it's running on the ARC's Track untill I feel more relaxed.
For my sophamore year, I know that I will be taking more action to making sure I have spare time to myself so that stress will me minimal.
My next entry will have my experience with the OMP Dinner and pictures to accompany it.

A Night out at VALPO!

Since I have been working at Jimmy John's, I haven't had alot of weekends where i can just kick back and relax. Usually, Saturdays is the time for me to relax because I work on Firday nights, but this week was different. I wasn't schedualed to work, so my friends took me out to a frat to finally hang out with them.Since we all didnt have any cars, we put use to the VU Van. This is a service taht is offered for student to call a van to pick us up from anywhere on campus and drop us off for free. This is really helpful to freshmen who usually dont have cars to easily get around campus and is extrememly helpful during the winter nights. After we called the VU van service, I got ready, had fun and danced a little with a lot of my friends. It was really nice getting a chance to go out and not be too tired to step foot out. Here are some pictures of us at the frat whose name I forgot. Ooops!

Bears Lose... : (

Very upsetting going to class after a superbowl that didnt go my way! AND i'm in INDIANA!!! OH MAN.....I'll survive.
My classes are going well, and more interesting as the topics become more in depth. My favorite class is CORE because of the liberty we have to speak our opinions on certain topics. This unit, we are focusing on LOVE and the diffrent types of love. This brings up a great atmosphere in the classroom when the professor can sit back and let the students guide the discussions with though and preperation. Still having a great time with my friends, and looking foward to seeing my family.

The Bears!

I am so happy to be a part of a school that accepts different talents throughout the University. I am a big fan of Add Two's music and he was one of the preformers at an MLK event which took place recently.

Can't wait untill they are FAMOUS! Me and Susie are fans.

Though I am in Indiana, I am able to be a BEARS fan easily. There are alot of people that are sports fans that make it fun every Sunday to watch the game with. There was a big deal with the Bears be able to make it to the playoffs, and this was when the students here at VU truly unite. Once they made to the the playoffs....WOW....it was over! The students here are going crazy, and the fact that we are in Indiana makes it crazier Because the Bears are up against the Colts for the Superbowl...History in the making and I'm glad to have great friends here to share it with. Go Bears!!

Finals were incredibly stressful. Mostly because I was so anxious about seeing my family and friends, and i was pretty much forced to study and focus. Once they were over, WINTER BREAK was finally here!!!!
This break was so much fun. Once you come back home, you really notice what you missed. It's a little hard to go from doing whatever you want i college to having rules and restrictions parents lay out. I was really happy to see my friends, and hanging out with them.

Packing for break is the most hardest task doing. Too much thinking involved in my opinion, but it's all worth it when you finally get home. This Thanksgiving break was my favorite I can remember. My sister Lili came back from college in Ohio, My other sister Edilsa lives outside of Chicago came by, and we were ALL together. It was great. The food was awesome, the games afterwards were fun, and we really enjoyed it. It's really nice coming back home, and feeling like you just left for a little while bcause everything seems back to normal. My twin sister and I went out with our friends and our older sister to do what we used to do in Chicago. It was so nice seeing all of my old friends and catching up with them, even though I did miss my friends at Valpo. These next two weeks are going to be difficult to handle but I'm going to be very focused. can't wait fot Winter Break!!!!!!

When I first came into town, i happened to have house keys. I let myself in to suprise my mom, stepdad, and ilttle sisters. Little did I know that they were already out of the house running errands. About a hlaf an hour later of being in my house alone, they finally came home. But my little sisters were sleeping. When they finally woke up, I was afraid that they would see me and not know who I was. My Sisiter Isabel is two years old and my other little sister Victoria is about nine months old, so they are at an age where they can easily forget who you are. Luckily they remembered who I was. At that moment, My older sister brought my 6-year old nephew Victor over for a Halloween party they were all planning on going to. Before they got ready, I took Isabel and Victor outside to enjoy the awesome Chicago weather.

When we got back inside, My mom and I were freantically trying to get the kids dressed for the party. The pictures pretty much emplains everything.

My mom and step-dad on their way to a Halloween party w/ the kids!!!

After they left, I went out. the next day was spent with the family. When I left home, I realized how much I missed my family. I called my mom as soon as I got in, and she told me that it's good that I miss everyone because that shows me that I have to appreciate everything that is good in my life. I love my FAMILY! and of course, i miss them all.

A side Note: Go Bears!!! 7- 0

Me and my # 12 with no sprouts! Mmm Mmm.

Since midterms came to us a couple of days ago, it has been a little stressful. The fact that these are sent out somehow got me extra worried about studying more, doing more work etc. Being in my room for the whole day was a very boring, especially because I had been reading my HUGE Bio text book for hours at a time. My friend Sanja, Susie (my twin sister/roomie), and I were all getting a little rumble in our stomachs. I just started my job at Jimmy Johns and I threw out the idea that we should get sanswhiches to munch on. When the subs came, they tasted soooo good and completely hit the spot of our midnight snack craving. Only it wasn't even midnight. It wasn't 1 am. It was about 2 in the morning. As we were eating our delicious subs, we really noticed that THIS was truly a college experience. We love Jimmy Johns for being open at outrageous hours.

Unity Ball

Friday night.
At aroung 5:00, I had to meet up with my co-host of the radio show to make a sweeper for our show. A sweeper is like a introduction, but it's played within our show, explaining our specific show, and not just the radio station. It says taht we play, bachata, reggaeton, Tejano, salsa, house and more. After that, me and Dj Lue made new cd's for the show, and met back at the station for the show. This week, we had our full time and it was so much fun. Our last hour, we had a topic of discussion. Out topic was Stalkers. It was really fun talking about this, because it was all in good fun, and we also had a list of songs we played that had to do with stalkers. It was during the show that we decided to go to the Unity Ball that was being held at the ARC. From what we knew, there was supoosed to be entertainment there, music, and a fashion show. One of the students, Adre "Add two" preformed and it was a great way to see the talent that exists in our very own University. Hopefully, Me and Dj Lue will come up with an event that we can host soon, this way, we can bring about some social diversity for everyone.

I get really excited for Firdays nowadays. Yes, TGIF....but now, i am a new co-host to a radio show that is on campus. Every Friday from 8- 10, we (me and Luis aka Dj LU) go to the studio and get ready for the show. Mostly organizing the music we're planing to play throughout the show. Our show has only spanish music from all genres. It's so much fun to express yourself, and basically invite people to enjoy what you enjoy. Alot of friends of mine called in, requesting songs, and even other hosts of other shows have told us that it's a great show. Oh, and my Dj name is Dj QuickSand. hahaha.

Study Hot Spots

The other night, I went to the downstairs study lounge and was suprisingly productive there. There were three people in there. Me, a girl from my BIO class, and another guy who was working on his math homework. I had never gone down there, but this is definatley under-rated. I guess the typical study spots are the library and your room, but finding different spots is good when you need options. What happens if the Library is to crowded, or you're in a fight with your roomate, or your floor is too noisy? If these siuations come up, you'll have options to where you can go.
What am i still doing up? Well, I just got back from the laundry room, and was there for about an hour. I was waiting for my clothes to dry, while studying for BIO. If you're the type of person that is easily distracted, I suggest going to the laundry room to completely seperate from the distractions and get work done there. I did this for the first time tonight, and it was perfect. There was hardly anyone there, and I couldn't get too distracted. All there was were washing machines, dryers, tables, and chairs. People would come and go, and I would still be into my BIO as I was before.
Finding change for these machines was such a pain today. I did about three loads of laundry. Why did I let it get this far, don't ask, but the point is, is that it was nerely impossible for me to find change. All I needed were quarters. The change machine wasn't working, so I thought and thought. Maybe I'll just ask my nieghbors for some change, and sure enough, they were nice enough to exchange the dollar bills for shiny quarters.
The thing about such a small school, is that you make friendships so easily, and you can rely on your new frinds to help you out. Even in the first weeks of school, I saw this hospitality from people here, and all I can do is do the same. I feel that if I do one person a favor, maybe someone else will see this, and wont be afraid to do the same, thus creating new friendships with people who you can rely on. By doing this, I have managed to get change from people, snacks, and just their time to listen to me if I needed to talk. Gotta' love Valpo!
   Till Next time .

BINGO Night!!!!!

My first days of classes just started. I am taking Biology, Math, and Core. Biology takes up most of my schedule, but its okay, I'm looking at the whole picture here. I have to do what I have to do. For my math class, the first day was just introducing the material, but as people started piling in, it was clear that we needed another room. We moved into another classroom, where it was more confortable and spacious. When I was in highschool, I thought for sure that I was going to have more homework, and it was going to be insanely hard, but that's not the case. I feel as though the homework load in high shcool was a lot, but going from that to a managable amount of hw like I have now is working to my benefit. If I had gone to a highschool where there was little hw assigned daily, and come to college, I would have a handicap to my educational success. There is always time to do my hw, and there seems to be alot of free time as well.
Luckily for me, my free time is spent with my friends and attending the differernt events the University plans for its students. Just the other night, Me and my friend Bryan decided to go to Bingo Night. We were planning on going early because rumor had it, that last year, there was too many people there, and all were playing to win the big prizes. This was a pretty big deal to us, because we had finished all of our homework, and wanted to participate in this cool event, so we arrived bout 15 minutes early. Wow! I know, you might be thinking that that's a little much, but we were one of the last people that arrived. There were tons of tables with as many chairs around it as they could fit, little containers with bingo chips to adorn our bingo cards in the middle of every table, and a huge screen in the front so we can clearly see the Bingo board. I will admit, it was a bit intimidating. But we brushed that aside, placed our donation near the entrance, collected our bingo cards and chose a cozy table to be our domain.
The first five rounds were fun. People won, people cheered, and it was a really fun and friendly atmosphere. As soon as the bigger prizes came up, there was a sense of competition that vailed over every bingo player. Just imagine, there is a room full of players that truly want to win, plus, it was getting late. The people who were running the Bingo Night offered the crowd a break, to go to the bathrooms, eat something, or just to take a little stretch, but the intensity of the people made it clear to the officials that there was no break needed. We all wanted to keep going! We wanted the bigger prizes. There was a lego set that was presented to us, the Bingo Players, and everyone cheered for it. It was a, ages 4+, 487 piece, red tub, which included "More variety, More versatility, More colors, and Better step-by-step building instructions"!!! Basically, everyone wanted to win this prize. At this point of the loooong night, I was not so much in the mood to win anymore. I even told my friend Bryan to call out BIINGO for me IF I won. right after I leaned over to him and said that, the announcers called out " O : 70" ......................BINGO!!! BINGO!!!!......yea, it was me who shouted this word with complete suprise and excitment. I think i kinda' scared people. Keep in mind, we played about 10 rounds before this, and the players wanted to win. As a person with a microphone came to confirm with the announcers in the front, i was literally dancing as he called out the numbers that had made me victorious. Okay, walking up to get my prize......wow! I think that was the scariest moment of the night. Eyes followed me up, minimal applause, and plenty whispers. " I had one more", "All i needed was O: 65!"....so I quicly got my prize, and ran back to my seat. As the next game started, another guy from my table won! We were the most hated table. We kept winning! It was awesome. At this point, we were out pretty late, and our frinends were beginning to wonder where we were. We made them come over, and they were suprised how heavy this event became. The night ended, and everyone was happy. Bingo brings the warriors out in the students. Period. I walked back to my dorm with pride and with a new LEGO set. Other students congradulated me as they passed me, and some gave me hi-fives. The late night, my uncontrolable hunger, and somewhat aggressive night: it all was worth it. Now, I say hi to the people I've never met because they know me as the girl who won the cool LEGO set. Needless to say, the next BINGO Night, consider me the first one there.
