Lois Mitchum joined the VU Guild in 1988 as the mother of a first-year student and has remained an active member ever since. A professional accountant in Greenville, S.C., her skills and expertise have been a valuable asset to the organization as she has served as treasurer since 2003. Mitchum also served as a vital member of the Guild Advisory Team, helping to put forth a fiscally sound proposal for the Guild’s future. Recently serving as president of the South Carolina chapter, Mitchum also has held the position of president for the Tampa chapter, Area Director IX, treasurer for the Christian Women’s Conference, chair of the Financial Review Committee, and has been a member of both the Resolution Committee and Minutes Review Committee. She also has served as treasurer for her Lutheran congregation. In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, who are Valparaiso University graduates, Mitchum also has ties to Valparaiso University through several extended family members who are alumni and active Guild members. Mitchum earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Rutgers University in 1977.
Sharing her feelings about Valpo, Mitchum says, “Valparaiso is a great university offering so much to its students. Valpo grads can be recognized for the difference they make in their churches, work and communities, as well as with their families and friends. I am thankful to be able to support Valparaiso University through my membership in the Guild.”
