Home: Sheboygan, Wisconsin
SHIRLEY (NELESEN ’58) HONOLD received her bachelor's degree in accounting from Valparaiso University and has been an active supporter of her alma mater for many decades. In 1970, she began her involvement with the VU Guild by joining her local Sheboygan Chapter. Shortly after, the chapter hosted the Wisconsin State Unit convention, and Honold was elected Wisconsin State Unit President. Prior to the completion of her two-year term, she was elected National Guild Treasurer for a three-year term (1972-1975), after which she chaired the Cookbook II Committee from 1976 to 1978. Honold then served as Person to Person chair from 1980 to 1982, and as a member of the Nominating Committee on multiple occasions. In addition, she was a longtime president of the Sheboygan Chapter until the Guild became a national organization. In her capacity as a Guild member over the decades, Honold served as the local coordinator for several visits by the university choir and band to Sheboygan; acted as chapter promoter of the choir concerts in Milwaukee; promoted current VU student activities, fundraisers and celebrations; and brought potential students to campus for Senior Days. In addition to her involvement with the Guild, Honold has served the university through her sorority, Alpha Phi Delta, for which she served as treasurer for the organization's 50th, 75th and 85th anniversaries. Honold also served as chair of her class’s 50th reunion committee for Homecoming and Reunion Weekend 2008, and is the mother of two Valpo graduates who are also active in the VU Guild.
