MARTIN ’69 and DEANNA (BARTELS ’64) STRITOF have actively supported their alma mater in myriad capacities since their graduations with bachelor of arts degrees in business (Martin) and English and German (Deanna). Supporters of Valpo arts, athletics, Guild, Greek life, and the university's relationship with the Valparaiso community, the Stritofs have contributed to the success of multiple organizations, events and initiatives. In 1973, Martin served as the alumni division chair for the VU Community Campaign, a position that Deanna filled in 1975, and the couple jointly filled as co-chairs in 1982. In 1985, Martin served the campaign as commercial division chair. Both Deanna and Martin have supported Valpo athletics as members of the Gauntlet Club from its inception through its evolution into the Crusader Club. Deanna's service to the VU Guild began with her position as vice president of the Valparaiso Chapter in 1974, which was followed by her first term as chapter president in 1975, a role that she filled again from 1986 to 1988 and from 1993 to 1995. In 2006, she served as a member of the Guild's National Board of Directors. Martin supported his wife in her capacity as Guild member, project leader, chairwoman and office holder, and the Stritofs added tremendous value to the initiatives of that organization. Both Deanna and Martin also have supported VU's art community, most notably through the Friends of Art Board of Directors, for which Deanna served as a member (1987-1997), secretary (1990-1992), vice president (1992-1994) and president (1994-1996). Deanna's sorority Phi Beta Chi (now Kappa Kappa Gamma) has benefited from her leadership on its Alumni Association Board of Directors, which she has served as a member since 1999, and which she currently serves as treasurer.
