O.P. Kretzmann Award
recognizes alumni for long-time and exemplary service as a University employee.
Warren M. Kosman ’67 received
his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry with minors in physics and
mathematics from Valparaiso University. He also received his Master of Science degree
and his Ph.D. in chemical physics from the University
of Chicago. Kosman has taught for 36 years at Valpo and
has been the chair of the chemistry department for the past 18 years. He has researched a wide range of projects
with Valpo students from quantum mechanical calculations to mitigating odors
from swine manure. He has been nominated
for both the Caterpillar Award and the Valparaiso University Alumni Association
Distinguished Teaching awards. Kosman
has also chaired the University’s committees on the college of arts and sciences curriculum, educational
policy, and general education reform. He
also has written numerous professional articles and given presentations at
various conferences. He and his wife, Kathryn ’84 MAED, live in Valparaiso. Their son, Jeffrey, received his Bachelor of
Science degree in chemistry from Valpo in 1996.
