recognizes alumni who have rendered outstanding service to the University.

Bruce LindnerBruce H. Lindner ’71 earned his Bachelor of Science degree in education.  He then received his Master of Science degree in education in 1983 from Indiana University Northwest.  He started his career as a teacher in the Portage Township schools.  He then worked in the construction business for six years before serving as the executive director of the Portage Township YMCA for eighteen years, and the executive director at the Hammond YMCA.  Lindner currently is the executive director for Porter County Aging and Community Service.  He has stayed very active in the community throughout the years, serving as a member of the Portage, Hammond and Valparaiso Rotary clubs and as  a long-term member of the Porter County United Way, where he served twice on their board of directors.  He also is very involved with his church and has served as president, secretary and finance chair several times.  He was a member of the Valparaiso University Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2004 to 2010, was involved in the University’s summit and long-range planning committee focus groups, and currently serves on the Valpo Athletics Hall of Fame selection committee.
