YOUR ASSOCIATION AT WORK

Keeping Alumni Connected…

Simply put, this is the objective of your alumni association – to keep you connected to Valparaiso University and to each other. A board of 24 directors meets twice a year to ensure the association and the university continues to provide avenues for such connections. At the October meeting, your alumni association board of directors continued work on three key areas:

Students and Young Alumni – We seek to engage students and young alumni through leadership development and increased understanding of the role of an alumnus/a. With help from the Student Alumni Association and the Senior Planning Council, we are hosting life skills workshops and campus events. As students transition from campus, young alumni events are planned each summer to welcome new graduates to the various regions, followed by networking programs each fall. New graduates also will so begin receiving the New Alumni Handbook.

150th Anniversary – The academic year 2008-09 will be the 150th Anniversary of Valparaiso University. We are busy planning 15 regional celebrations in an effort to bring Valpo to you. Given the transformation underway on campus, alumni will have much to celebrate.

Reunions – The goal is to enhance reunions with volunteers who plan, recruit attendees, fundraise, and host your reunion. Following Homecoming, we heard from a number of you regarding the planned change of reunions to the spring. As a result, reunions will remain a part of the Homecoming experience, but we need your help. If you are celebrating your 25th or 50th reunion this year, volunteer. Call 800.833.6792, ext. 23 or send an e-mail to alumni@valpo.edu.

The board will meet again in this spring to continue work on these three areas, as well as select this year's alumni award recipients.

Sincerely,
