VALPO PHYSICAL EDUCATION MAJORS do more than just stay in shape. They enjoy hands-on training in such areas as kinesiology, teaching, coaching, and learn how to help others live healthily.
Degree, Skills or Experience Needed for Beginning a Job in This Field:
Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, and Sports Management. Skills in the areas of teaching physical education, coaching, officiating, exercise science, and sports management. Individuals pursuing employment in these areas need to have effective interpersonal skills, enjoy working with people and a desire to provide services for others.
Kinds of Work Available to Graduates in this Major:
Teaching (education); coaching; intercollegiate and professional sports management; facility management; community and campus recreation; sports information; sports marketing; fitness programming and leisure sports industries.

Public school systems, YMCA's, park and recreation departments, private health clubs, boys’ and girls’ clubs, high schools (teacher), colleges ( instructor in athletic administration), professional sports organizations, corporate fitness centers, health clubs, private sports medicine clinics.
Extracurricular Groups:Phi Epsilon Kappa – the Physical Education National Honor Society (www.valpo.edu/phyed/pekmain/html), Kinesiology Majors/Minors Club, and Student Advisory Council. Valpo offers more than 100 organizations for its students.
Physical Education majors have participated in internship programs with various organizations including the Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Wave, Indianapolis Ice, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, Pittsburgh Penguins, South Bend Silverhawks, Fort Wayne Fury, and with sports agents and attorneys, YMCAs, athletic conferences, health and fitness clubs community hospitals and rehabilitation facilities, parks and recreation departments, local high schools and sports medicine clinics, and boys’ & girls’ clubs. Students may take advantage of any of Valpo’s 14 study abroad programs as well as its semester programs in Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C.
