What Can You Do with a Kinesiology Major?

Degree, Skills or Experience Needed for Beginning a Job in This Field:
Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, and Sports Management. Skills in the areas of teaching physical education, coaching, officiating, exercise science, and sports management. Individuals pursuing employment in these areas need to have effective interpersonal skills, enjoy working with people and a desire to provide services for others.

Kinds of Work Available to Graduates in this Major:
Teaching (education); coaching; intercollegiate and professional sports management; facility management; community and campus recreation; sports information; sports marketing; fitness programming and leisure sports industries.

Potential Hiring Institutions:
Public school systems, YMCA's, park and recreation departments, private health clubs, boys’ and girls’ clubs, high schools (teacher), colleges ( instructor in athletic administration), professional sports organizations, corporate fitness centers, health clubs, private sports medicine clinics.

Off-Campus Opportunities

Internships/Co-ops:
Physical Education majors have participated in internship programs with various organizations including the Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Wave, Indianapolis Ice, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, Pittsburgh Penguins, South Bend Silverhawks, Fort Wayne Fury, and with sports agents and attorneys, YMCAs, athletic conferences, health and fitness clubs community hospitals and rehabilitation facilities, parks and recreation departments, local high schools and sports medicine clinics, and boys’ & girls’ clubs.
