Students in the marketing research and advertising classes of Musa Pinar, associate professor of marketing, recently developed a strategy for the Lutheran High School of Indianapolis to sharpen its promotional initiatives.

First, Pinar’s spring 2007 marketing research class conducted research. The Valpo students gathered information from students enrolled at Lutheran High School of Indianapolis to learn what they liked and didn’t like about their school. Another group of Valpo students surveyed the high school’s alumni base to get feedback about the strengths and weaknesses of the school.

A marketing and advertising plan was formulated and implemented in Pinar’s fall 2007 advertising class. The Valpo students created posters and brochures, and the information was delivered to prospective Lutheran High School of Indianapolis students as well as to Lutheran churches in the area.

“The people from Indianapolis were very impressed,” Pinar said. “They seemed very pleased.”

Pinar said the hands-on project is the type that will benefit the Valpo students after graduation.

“When I assign a project, I look for real-life projects,” he said.
