Distinguished Student Robert Pampel ’08 Wins Fellowship

Robert Pampel ’08, an English and humanities major and CC scholar from Matteson Ill., was honored this spring by the Valpo Alumni Association as the 2008 Distinguished Student Award recipient from Christ College. His excellence and integrity in the pursuit of the arts and sciences also were rewarded with membership in Valparaiso’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.
1998 Alumna Teacher Praises 2008 CC Graduate

Among the Christ College graduating class of 2008, none has come farther, literally, than Nikolina Kiselinova, who emigrated from war-torn Macedonia to the United States at age 15. But Nina, as she is called, was launched into academic success in Christ College with the help of CC alumna Samantha (Bradtmiller ’98) Lucas who was Kiselinova’s Spanish teacher at River Forest High School in Hobart, Ind.

For CC Professor Kevin Hoffman ’93, probing Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard’s views of faith and suffering, using his skills as a carpenter to help students build housing in hurricane-ravaged New Orleans, or pondering “The Perplexities of Personal Love” (the title of one of his CC seminars) are all part of the same enterprise: enabling students to think for themselves and become “integrated human beings.”
