SWE Chapter Receives Regional, National Awards

The Valparaiso University chapter of Society of Women Engineers recently was honored regionally and nationally for its work in supporting women in the engineering profession.

The Valpo chapter was honored last fall at the SWE national convention with a runner-up award for Outstanding Collegiate Program in the small-college section. The chapter received a similar regional honor earlier this year.

“The national award was a nice thing. It was a total surprise,” said faculty adviser Kathleen Sevener, assistant professor of mechanical engineering.

SWE takes part in service programs on campus and in the community. Last fall, members organized trick-or-canning to collect food for local food pantries. They also worked with the local Boys and Girls Club to teach children about engineering.
