Tau Beta Pi Chapter, Scholars Honored
The Valparaiso University chapter of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society, has received the Chapter Project Award for the 2007-’08 academic year.
The Valpo Indiana Delta Chapter was one of 17 out of 232 chapters in the country, and the only chapter in Indiana to receive the award, which is given to chapters that conduct a superior program of projects and activities.
The Valpo chapter received the award at the 102nd Tau Beta Pi National Convention last fall along with $500 to be used for a scholarship for one student.
College of Engineering Dean Kraig Olejniczak ’87 EE then matched the $500 through the Dean’s Fund to make two scholarships possible.
At the annual The Engineers Day banquet in February, the Valpo chapter awarded the scholarships to students Erica Haugen and Andrew Lund on the basis of their involvement in the College of Engineering and campus activities.
“It is our hope that recognizing the contributions of these underclassmen will motivate them, along with their classmates, to contribute future acts of service and leadership,” chapter president Peter Krenzke said.
Also in the 2007-’08 academic year, Valpo’s College of Engineering was one of only two engineering schools in the United States to have students win multiple Tau Beta Pi fellowships for graduate work.
