A panel of Christ College graduates of 2006 will reflect on the ways their Valparaiso experiences shaped essential aspects of their careers, relationships, and spiritual lives. Panelists: Tamara Carnahan,Deputy Attorney General, Office of the Indiana Attorney General; Ben Hampton, Transportation Planner, Metropolitan Washington D.C. Council of Governments; Amy Stark, Federal Drug Administration Fellow in Human Genetics; and Steven Wilco, Pastor, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Amherst, Massachusetts.

Browse old yearbooks, Torches, and other memorabilia, and take in multimedia historical displays. Members of the 50th and 25th reunion classes will have reserved gathering spaces. The Class of 1961 Scholarly and Artistic Showcase also will be on display.

Bid on items donated by alumni, as well as area and national businesses. All proceeds benefit the Alumni Discretionary Fund, which supports student needs through book scholarships and through special Student Alumni Association activities. Presentation: “I Was Hungry, and You? Valpo’s International Service Major”

At Valpo, service has always been a core value. But how does one “learn” to do international service? What tools are needed? Why can’t one just learn a foreign language, pack up and go somewhere to help? How can a curriculum be built to equip students for a career in service? Explore answers to these questions and learn where this program has taken Valpo students. Presented by Judith (Griessel ’61) Peters, Professor Emerita of Foreign Languages and Literatures.

Presentation: “Engineers Without Borders”

Engineers Without Borders is a service-based organization consisting of Valpo students from all majors who are committed to partnering with under-developed international, national and local communities in an effort to effect transformative change. Valpo’s chapter is currently working with the village of Maesera in the Kilema district of northern Tanzania to rehabilitate a local irrigation canal and provide sources for clean drinking. Come and learn more about this exciting organization and its students.

Future Starving Artists of America Showcase

The Future Starving Artists of America Series is an opportunity every few months for the current Federation of Authors to showcase their works, past and present and in-the-making.  Members will read their works, from poetry to scripts to monologues, to the audience, who only need to sit back and enjoy. Previous shows have been Core-Approved, so the prime audience is the student populace, but the group has also hooked in coffeehouse regulars across the age-spectrum.  What was intended to be a campus break-out for the group has turned into a spectrum-encompassing event for all ages.

This year’s ornament will depict Heritage Hall. Some ornaments from previous years also may beavailable for purchase at a reduced price of $10 each.
