Portfolio Requirements

We prefer slides of your work. We would like to see 15 to 20 examples of your best work that demonstrates the range of your skills. Attach a brief description of each image which includes the following information: 1) title of work; 2) medium; 3) date completed; 4) size; and 5) a one-page letter that outlines your artistic goals. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope for their return. If you plan to present your works in person, we would be happy to meet with you. If you have already been accepted to Valparaiso University and are considering a major in Art, call the department chair at 219-465-7804 to set up an interview. If you have not been accepted but would still like to meet with someone from our department, please call the Admissions office.

In the fall of 1995, the new $19.2 million Center for the Arts opened on campus. This facility includes a new Graphic Design Lab, Photography Lab, Art History facilities, and the capacity for working in interactive media to bring graphic design, photography, video and music production together in a single electronic environment. Also housed in the Center for the Arts are the Brauer Museum and the departments of Music and Theatre and Television Arts.

The Brauer Museum of Art on campus possesses a strong collection of American art. The complete collection is valued at over six million dollars. Each year the museum exhibits works from its permanent collection as well as student shows and traveling exhibitions of works by artists of national importance.
