Student Submission & Publication Requirements

Student authors are invited to present posters to the 2009 ASEE Illinois/Indiana Section Meeting at Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana, March 27-28. The meeting will feature both a paper with presentation competition and a poster presentation competition at the meeting. These guidelines apply to the poster presentation competition.

 

Submission

Student author(s) must submit an abstract by March 13, 2009.

 

Student abstracts must be submitted electronically via email attachment sent to Carmine.Polito@valpo.edu by March 13, 2009. Students may not enter the same project in both the paper and poster competitions.

Entrants will be notified regarding the acceptance or rejection of their abstract by March 16, 2009. Students with accepted abstracts may enter in the poster competition. They will be expected to register by March 6, 2009 and bring their poster to the event to present to attendees, including judges, in accord with the meeting schedule. For group projects, at least one group member is required to register by March 13, 2009. Student co-authors are not both required to register; however meals are only provided to individuals who register at the “student w/ meals” rate. Winners of the student poster competition will be announced at the awards banquet on the evening of March 28, 2009.

Any undergraduate work is appropriate for submission. Typically, work related to senior design projects or undergraduate research projects forms the basis for posters.

Eligibility

Undergraduates from any engineering or engineering technology program in the Indiana/Illinois Section are invited to present a paper. Each paper submission must identify a faculty advisor or faculty representative. The faculty advisor/representative must be a registered conference attendee.

Publication

Final Abstracts must be submitted as a word document containing the abstract formatted as described below in the FINAL Abstract Guidelines no later than March 13, 2009.

To submit your Final Abstract, please attach the word document with the formatted Final Abstract to an email to Carmine Polito at Carmine.Polito@valpo.edu Abstracts should generally be between 250 and 500 words. Final abstracts received by the March 20th deadline will be included in the proceedings CD-ROM to be distributed at the conference, provided at least one student author and his/her faculty advisor/representative has registered for the conference by the March 13th deadline.

Example Abstract

An example Abstract, formatted within the guidelines given, is available for your reference:

  Title/Authors:

1.) Title: The title must be centered with at least a one and one-half inch margin on the left and right.

2.) Font: Times New Roman typeface is required, bold faced, 14 point.

3.) Author(s) and Affiliation(s): Author(s) and affiliation(s) for each author should be included beginning two spaces below the paper title. This information should be single spaced and centered. Times New Roman typeface is required, not bold faced, 12 point.

  Body of the Abstract:

1.) Format: The abstract will be in a one-column format with left justification.

There must be a 1 inch margin on the left, right, and bottom. Leave 2 blank lines between the last author/affiliation and the start of the abstract.

2.) Font: Times New Roman typeface, 12 point, is required. Skip one line between paragraphs.

3.) Length: Abstracts should generally be between 250 and 500 words.

 

Authors are asked to provide brief biographical information at the end of the paper in 10 point font. This information should be limited to no more than 2-5 lines, with the requested font and margins, and should include a brief summary of the author’s(s’) current position or activities, along with a current email address.
