Barbara Tyree was named the interim head coach of the Valparaiso University swimming and diving staff in January, 2008 after having worked with the team as a volunteer assistant since the 2005-2006 season. She also assisted the squad from 1997-2001. Prior to arriving at Valpo, Tyree coached swimming at the high school level in Farmington, N.M. and Pullman, Wash. In addition to coaching, Tyree is in her 11th year as an associate professor of physical education at Valparaiso. Tyree also serves as the Director of the Physical Education-Teacher Education program. Tyree received her master’s degree in movement studies from Washington State University in 1993. She went on to earn her doctorate in sports pedadogy from the University of Idaho in 1996.
