The Bach Institute at Valparaiso University was established in 2004. One of the goals of the Bach Institute is to perform the major works of Johann Sebastian Bach on a triennial basis. The inaugural performance (January 2004) was Bach's Mass in B-minor, with internationally acclaimed conductor Helmuth Rilling. The St. John Passion was performed in January of 2007 with Craig Jessop, conductor and music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, conducting. The St. Matthew Passion was heard in March of 2010 with Hermann Max, founder and music director of the Rheinische Kantorei and Das Kleine Konzert, serving as guest conductor. The next work in the series will be the Mass in B-minor in 2013.
