Field Station Consortium

Through a partnership with Valparaiso University and a number of other colleges and universities, Pierce Cedar Creek Institute, a biological field station in Hastings, Michigan, offers a number of rare qualities that make it attractive to the student and faculty member in the natural sciences. Undergraduate students attending Valpo qualify to apply for a grant to conduct summer research in the natural sciences at Pierce Cedar Creek Institute. The grant includes a stipend and room and board. Students may participate in a three-week college course held at the Institute in conjunction with other universities and colleges.

The Institute also provides strong support to the University, including prime education facilities, housing, and meal service. The facilities and property are available for summer-long in-residence projects and one-day or multi-day course field trips (with overnight accommodations available).

Situated in Southwest Michigan, the Institute's 661 acres of wetlands, forests, and meadowlands are teeming with native flora and fauna- many of the best features of Northern Michigan without the long drive! The facilities- classrooms, laboratory, meeting rooms, housing, and dining hall- are up-to-date. The Institute is committed to ecological and environmental education, providing students an opportunity to engage in hands-on and practical field experiences through research, field trips and courses.
