Academic excellence for all

The all-encompassing College of Arts & Sciences

Valparaiso UniversitySeventy percent of Valpo students earn their degrees from the College of Arts & Sciences -- which is not surprising when you consider the extensive educational opportunities available through the College's 21 academic departments. In fact, because of Valpo's excellence in the liberal arts and sciences, we are one of only 10 percent of all colleges and universities with a Phi Beta Kappa academic honor chapter.

All Valpo students -- not enrolled in Christ College -- will take our first-year Core: a discussion-based class with 20 or fewer students that allows you to tackle important issues in "The Human Experience" by examining literature, philosophy, music and more.

After your first year, if you still haven't decided on a major, you can remain within Arts & Sciences and continue to sample various fields as an exploratory major.
