only explore their appreciation of art, but also have the
opportunity to develop their talent and creativity in a broad range of studio
classes. Whether interested in Art History, Art Education, painting, Sculpture,

What
Is Distinctive About Valpo's Program?
Valparaiso
University Center for the Arts (VUCA):
The VUCA is home to a graphic design computer laboratory, classrooms,
art and ceramic studios, and both color and black-and-white photo
labs.
Brauer
Museum of Art:
Exhibits are held at the Valparaiso University Brauer Museum of Art, located
inside the VUCA. Educational opportunities are available at the Museum
for students interested in careers such as museum studies or arts management.
What Can I Do With This Major?
Degree, Skills,
or Experience Needed for Beginning A Job In This Field:
The Bachelor’s
Degree coupled with artistic talent and creative ability is usually sufficient
to enter this field. A portfolio of work samples is an asset. Most graduates
enter this field on a trainee level on routine assignments working their
way up as their talents become evident. A minor in Business or Communication
may provide more promotional opportunities. The Bachelor of Science in
Fine Arts degree offers the student more courses in preparation for a
professional career.
Kinds of work available to Graduates in This Major:

What Beyond-the-Classroom Opportunities
Does Valpo Offer You in Art?
Extracurricular Groups:
Students
can enrich their art experience by visiting or working at the Brauer Museum
of Art, Valparaiso University’s own on-campus art museum, working on the
newspaper staff, yearbook, or several other campus related groups.
Off-Campus Opportunities:
Internships:
Students
are encouraged to gain internship experience and are assisted in internship
placement. One possibility is through the Associated College of the Midwest
Chicago Semester in the Arts in which students live in Chicago and work
in internships with studio artists. International internships are also
available in such art centers as Paris.
Chicago
Arts Program: The Chicago
Arts Program is a 15-week semester of immersion in the Chicago artworld.
The Program is designed for college students with a strong interest in
the language, visual, performing, media and commercial arts, as well as
arts education and community outreach.
Students live and study in Chicago, and work at a part-time internship.
Participants attend events in a variety of artistic media, meet and interview
guest artists and arts professionals, and write about and discuss practical
and theoretical issues. Click
