CatalogsThe goal of the Valparaiso University Social Work Department is to educate and prepare students for
ethicat effective, and culturally competent generalist social work practice for service in the
world. While at Valpo, students cultivate the habits of critical thinking, active adult learning, and self-
awareness by working closely with department faculty to develop, implement, and evaluate their
individualized learning plans. Students who enter our program are enthusiastic and passionate about
improving the lives of others. Through class work and educationally directed and supervised
internships, they acquire a core knowledge base and solid professional skills that prepare them to make
a meaningful impact on clients. Graduates of our program leave confident, experienced, and prepared
for generalist social work practice.
