This Way for Spiritual Direction
This school year, the Chapel offers an opportunity to meet one-on-one for spiritual direction.

Spiritual Direction is really not about being “directed.” It is, rather, one person accompanying another on the spiritual journey. It is an opportunity to grow in attentiveness to and relationship with God. It provides a way to become more conscious of God’s presence each day. It may involve exploring different ways to pray or it may mean learning to notice experiences of God. Typically one meets with a spiritual director for about an hour, usually every three to five weeks. The “directee” determines the themes of the conversation. The “director” listens, gives encouragement, and offers feedback and suggestions if desired. (Brochures about spiritual direction are available at the Chapel, and additional information may be found at the web site of Spiritual Directors International www.sdiworld.org.)

Beginning this fall, E. Louise Williams will offer Spiritual Direction at the Chapel.  Louise is a VU graduate and has been a deaconess for over 40 years. She has an MA in Christian Spiritualities from Mundelein College, Chicago. She has been a spiritual director for many years and currently meets monthly with a peer group of spiritual directors. She is co-facilitator of the Michiana Spiritual Directors Network and is a member of Spiritual Directors International. She is Executive Director Emeritus of the Lutheran Deaconess Association and teaches part time in the Theology Department at VU.

If you wish to use the resource of Spiritual Direction at the Chapel, please contact Sri at the chapel office (464-5093) for an appointment or sri.frazee@valpo.edu.
