LCMS PRESIDENT TO PREACH FEB. 1
The Chapel of the Resurrection is pleased to welcome the Rev. Dr. Gerald Kieschnick, president of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, as guest preacher during the chapel’s festival service of Holy Communion Sunday, Feb. 1, as we give thanks for God’s blessings during Valparaiso University’s 150 years.

This special service will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will include music by Kantorei and the Heavenly Metal Brass Quintet as well as the Handbell Choir. There is no 8:30 a.m. service for the day.

Dr. Kieschnick is the 12th president of the 2.6-million member LCMS and has served in that position since 2001. Prior to his election to that office, he chaired the LCMS Commission on Theology and Church Relations and served on the program committee of the LCMS Council of Presidents. After his ordination in 1970, Dr. Kieschnick served as pastor at churches in Mississippi and Texas.

The 150th anniversary festival worship is one of several events taking place in conjunction with the Jan. 31 dedication of the Harre Union. The dedication ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of the Resurrection before proceeding to the Harre Union, and is open to the public.

Those attending the festival worship on Feb. 1 also are invited to participate in a community open house at the Harre Union, part of a $74 million project that is the largest in the University’s history, that will include tours of the facility from 1 to 2 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m., with a concert featuring the Valparaiso Community/University Band at 2 p.m.
