- Holy Week is not far off. You’re invited to participate at these services and events at Valparaiso University. All are held in the Chapel, unless otherwise noted:
Palm Sunday/Sunday of the Passion – April 5
8:30 & 10:30 a.m. – Blessing and distribution of palms; Soul Purpose provides the message.
5 p.m. – Bach Institute Passion Vespers - D. Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu nostri
Maundy Thursday – April 9
7:00 p.m. – Personal absolution, Holy Communion, foot washing and stripping of the altar. Dr. Fred Niedner will preach.
Good Friday – April 10
Noon – The Passion According to St. John, sung by University Singers
3:00 p.m. – Liturgy of Good Friday, music by Kantorei
The chapel will be reserved for individual reflection and prayer from 1 to 3 p.m. on Good Friday.
Via Crucis (Way of the Cross) – April 10
4 p.m. – A procession beginning at Heritage Lutheran Church, Valparaiso, and ending at the VU Law School, in keeping with the Latin American tradition.
Holy Saturday/Easter Vigil – April 11
8 p.m. – The lighting of a new fire, blessing of the paschal candle, renewal of baptismal promises and the first Eucharist of the Resurrection.
The Day of the Resurrection of our Lord – April 12
8:30 a.m. - Morning worship, Rev. Joseph Cunningham, preacher
10:15 a.m. – Pre-service music
10:30 a.m. – Festival Celebration, Rev. Joseph Cunningham, preacher; Music by Kantorei
10:00 p.m. – Candlelight Evening Prayer
