- Pastor Wetzstein to speak at Mayor's Breakfast
In association with the Office of the Mayor of the City of Gary, the Gary Area Leadership Association is hosting Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson's first Leadership Prayer Breakfast on Tuesday, June 19, 2012. You are invited to join us for this special day of prayer and commemoration for our Gary area leaders. In addition to Mayor Freeman-Wilson, the Rev. James Wetzstein, University Pastor at Valparaiso University, will be the featured speaker. The event will be held at the Genesis Convention Center in Gary and will also celebrate Juneteenth Day, which is an annual observance that remembers when Union soldiers enforced the Emancipation Proclamation and freed all remaining slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865. This day is an opportunity for people to celebrate freedom and equal rights in the United States. Reservations are $25 each, and Corporate and Table sponsorships are invited.
