Our Keynote Speaker features Priscilla Ruiz Guillen. She will speak on the topic of Women's Rights & Indigenous' Rights are HUMAN Rights. She will draw on her experience from the human rights situation in Chiapas, Mexico and her work with the Fray Bartolome de las Casas Human Rights Center (frayba.org.mx), and the role of international solidarity. FrayBa was founded by the renowned liberation theologian, peace activist, and Catholic Bishop Samuel Ruiz Garcia in 1989, and has since been a key ally for Chiapas' indigenous communities. The presentation will be in Spanish and Stuart will provide consecutive translation
The day will include individual Focus sessions presented by students right here at Valpo that will be centered around our theme of Human Rights, as well as information tables where you can learn how to get involved and take a stance! There will be also be Hunger Theme Luncheon! What will you eat for lunch today? More than 2.5 billion people live in poverty...over 925 million people suffer from chronic hunger. Hunger affects everyone. Come and experience firsthand how our decisions affect others in the world. Learn firsthand how you can become a part of our community of concerned global citizens who want to end hunger and poverty. Together, we can change the world!
