This year the hymn festival, a 30-year Homecoming and Reunion Weekend tradition, is being revised to include a time to name and remember Valpo alumni who have died in the last five years, those from the 10th anniversary year, the 25th and 50th year. The service, which begins at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, will draw on the liturgical tradition of Compline — prayer at the close of the day – along with beloved hymns to provide a fitting way to end a great day back at Valpo.
All are also welcome to attend the Homecoming Sunday Morning Service of Holy Communion, Oct. 7. The service begins at 10 a.m. University Pastor James Wetzstein will preach and preside; the Valparaiso University Alumni Association 2012 award recipients will be honored. Special music by Kantorei of the Chapel of the Resurrection, Valparaiso University Chorale, Alumni Choir, the Handbell Choir, and Brass ensemble.
