Students from SALT, St. Teresa's and Engineers with Borders are working together to raise awareness about homelessness and hunger.
Homelessness awareness sleepout is planned for 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2nd, through 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3rd on the Huegli Lawn.
It is easy to talk about helping those in need, but few of us know the experience of being in need ourselves. Bring sleeping bags, blankets, and pillows and join other students in gaining this experience by spending the night on Huegli Lawn in a cardboard structure created by Engineers Without Borders or in cardboard boxes. Materials will be supplied along with a recreational fire. Hot pancakes will be served at 8:00 a.m.
To better understand those who suffer from hunger, join other students in a begging challenge on Friday, Nov. 2. All food consumed on this day must be acquired through the charity of a stranger. If you would like to share a reflection of your begging experience it can be sent to Lydia.hawkins@valpo.edu and/or shared around the fire at the sleepout.
There is also a speaker planned for 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in the Victory Bell Room of the Union. Come hear about issues related to homelessness, even if you are unable to stay for the sleepout afterwards.
