Variety of Worship Opportunities

There are few places with a greater range of worship styles and opportunities than the campus of Valparaiso University. And it’s not variety for variety’s sake, but out of respect for the varied backgrounds of students and their changing needs as they grow on our campus.

When classes are in session, there is one service every Sunday morning (10:00 a.m.) and one on Sunday evening (10:00 p.m.), called Candlelight. The morning services vary with the season and mark the whole life and ministry of Jesus over the course of the year. Holy Communion is offered Sunday morning.

The single most frequent worship opportunity is Morning Prayer, 20 minutes that begins at 11:15 each class day. Worship styles change from day to day, season to season, with music ranging from ancient to contemporary. Morning Prayer is a time for students, faculty, and staff to gather as a community of faith, share space in the pew, hear God’s word, pray, and give praise. Each day is a different style of worship. Come check out each day!

If you’re looking for contemporary worship and praise with a casual style, then Celebrate! is the place. Come to Gloria Christi Chapel Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m. when classes are in session.

Special services are also offered throughout the year, including a variety of Vespers services, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week and more. Advent Christmas Vespers will be Dec. 9, 2011, at 7 and 10 p.m. at the Chapel; assured seating cards can be picked up at the Chapel or at the welcome desk of the Harre Union, or email chris.boshoven@valpo.edu.

You are always welcome to join us at the Chapel.
