This Sunday at the Chapel
Sunday, May 11
The celebration of the Day of Pentecost sets the tone for the close of the academic year here at Valparaiso University. The peace of Christ is offered and the promise of the Holy Spirit’s presence (the Holy Gospel, St. John 20:19-23) encourages us as we finish the tasks before us and anticipate commencement. The coming of this same Spirit upon the disciples of Jesus on the Day of Pentecost is told in our First Reading (Acts 2:1-21). The product of that outpouring upon the Church is the subject of our Second Reading (First Corinthians 12:3b-13). In the one Spirit we are baptized into one body, and at the Lord's table the Spirit unites us for witness in the world.
Prayer of the Day: O God, on this day you open the hearts of your faithful people by sending into us your Holy Spirit. Direct us by the light of that Spirit, that we may have a right judgment in all things and rejoice at all times in your peace, through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
