Research Interests

Our research group is interested in using chemical techniques to solve biological problems, especially in terms of visualizing and understanding the non-genomic life processes, such as post-transcriptional and post-translational modifications and interactions of nucleic acids and proteins.  In an effort to expand this ‘post-genomic toolbox’ our group is working to develop an expanded genetic code in E. coli that will incorporate fluorescent amino acids that are useful in super-resolution microscopy.  In addition, we use conventional fluorophores to monitor the conformational changes of important proteins, and strive to develop affinity ligands that are specific for the post-translational modifications of proteins seen in higher organisms.
