Pam Sieving completed an MA in English Literature and Linguistics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1971, and an MS in library science at Southern Connecticut State University in 1974. She is accredited at the ‘distinguished’ level in the Academy of Health Information Professionals. Since 1986, she has focused on information resources and services in ophthalmology and vision research, as Director of Library Services at the University of Michigan’s department of ophthalmology and visual sciences, 1986-2001, then as Informationist to the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health. Pam retired from federal service at the end of 2014, but continues work on several international projects, particularly with several providing needed information resources at eye centers in developing countries.
She is active in the American Library Association, the Medical Library Association, the Association of Vision Science Librarians, and the Cogan Ophthalmic History Society. For many years she was active in Valpo Guild chapters and served as national vice president for two years. Pam is married to Paul A. Sieving, ’70; they were ‘pioneers’ at the Reutlingen center in spring, 1968, and now live in Sacramento, but still include being ‘travel partners’ as an important part of their lives. Sons Ted and Matt are both attorneys in California: Ted owns and manages Work Evolution Labs as well as xNovo Legal and Recreational Coffee, all in Long Beach; Matt is associate general counsel with SB Energy, a subsidiary of SoftBank. Daughter-in-law Lia Izenberg is principal of Lia Izenberg Coaching and Consulting; grandson River and granddaughter Wren keep the whole family guessing where the next adventure will be.
