Peter Kanelos received his BA in English from Northwestern University, an MA in Political Philosophy from Boston University and a PhD from the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago. His scholarly interests center on dramatic literature and the performing arts, especially Shakespeare studies. He has written widely on Shakespeare; his publications include Thunder at a Playhouse: Essaying Shakespeare and the Early Modern Stage, Suiting the Action to the Word: Chicago Shakespeare Theater, The New Kittredge Much Ado About Nothing, and dozens of articles, chapters and reviews. He is also an editor of the book series, Shakespeare and the Stage. Kanelos has lectured nationally and internationally on Shakespeare, at the Old Globe Theater, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the Globe Theater in London, and elsewhere. He has been awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Humanities Center. Prior to arriving at Valparaiso, he held appointments at Stanford University, the University of San Diego, and Loyola University Chicago, where he founded the Interdisciplinary Shakespeare Studies Program. In 2013, Kanelos became the fifth dean of Christ College.
