Ruth Doty graduated from Valparaiso University in 1970 with a B.A., earned her MS from Purdue University in 1971 and graduated from the Lutheran School of Theology in 2004. She currently serves as the Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Co-Director for Lutheran Congregational Services and as a Pastoral Care Provider for St. John’s Lutheran Church. Ruth is a founding member of both, Safeplace, a shelter for victims of domestic violence and Alabama Reading Aids, an adult literacy program. She serves as a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and the National Council on Family Relations. Her family has deep Valpo ties including husband Richard (’68), along with nieces and nephews. In her free time, Ruth, a Master Gardner, enjoys gardening, reading, walking, swimming and traveling.
