Jennifer Prough received her BA from Valparaiso University and her PhD from Duke University in cultural anthropology. Her teaching and research interests include the anthropology of media, anthropology of tourism, Japanese studies, gender studies, and globalization. Besides her work in Christ College, she teaches seminars in the Chinese/Japanese Studies program and anthropology in the Department of Sociology. Prough's book Straight from the Heart: Gender, Intimacy, and the Production of Shojo Manga about the production of Girls’ comics in Japan was released in March 2011 by the University of Hawai’i press. Her current research project analyzes the way that cultural history is represented, and popularized in the Kyoto tourist industry.
