Every fall CC first-year students are encourage to submit a limerick for the Annual Limerick Contest. Topics for limericks are:
- ideas presented in their Freshman Program texts
- their impressions of the CC Freshman Program Faculty
or
- the lighting of the hearthfire—a symbol long associated with the coming of the cooler weather.
This year’s limerick contest judges were the TAs and the CC Deans. The winner has the honor of lighting the CC Commons fireplace for the first time this season.
The limerick judged most clever,
written by Natalie Zibolski
Oh such woe for our lost Friday night,
That we all spend holed up in dim light.
Complaining ‘bout sages
And cursing blank pages,
Thinking, “Please let my thesis be right.”
First runner up - Greg Gerke
Finding the mean and excess,
It’s all just a jumbled up mess.
So let’s follow the dao,
It can’t let us down now,
Doing nothing can bring real success.
Second runner up - Rachel Okerstrom
‘Twas a dark and cold wintery day,
And the whole world was wishing for May.
Then through starry night,
The hearth filled with light
And dancing flames came out to play.
This year’s contest prompted a new type of entry, to which the judges give an honorable mention: “A Walk Through Mueller Hall”, video producer: David Cyze.
