Zhimin Lin, Associate Professor of Political Science, Department of Political Science, and Chair of Chinese and Japanese Studies Program

Professor Zhimin Lin joined VU’s faculty in 1990 and has served as the chair of the Chinese and Japanese Studies Program since 1998. Professor Lin earned a M.P.A. from Princeton University and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington. He is the co-author of two books, State Capacity and Reform in China (Westview, 1995), and Provincial Strategies of Economic Reform in Post-Mao China (M. E. Sharpe, 1999), and the author of a dozen articles and book chapters. His current research projects include a book on the institutionalization of reform in Shanghai and a comparative study of public perceptions of US-China relations (funded in part by the Freeman Faculty-Student Fellowship Program). Professor Lin has served as the director of VU’s Hangzhou Programs for three years (1994-1996) and the group leader of three faculty seminars in China. He has extensive experience in conducting research in China and coordinating cultural exchanges between the US and China. He has played a vital role in establishing VU’s strong presence in the Hangzhou region of China.
