Middlebury College
With its long tradition of academic excellence, each summer
the Chinese School offers its students a unique, unparalleled
opportunity to learn Chinese language and culture. In nine short
weeks with the support of a dedicated faculty and staff, a rigorous,
well-implemented curriculum, a speak-Chinese-only total immersion
learning environment, and a low student-teacher ratio, our students
make unimaginable progress. At the end of each summer, comparisons
of entrance and exit speaking and reading proficiency test results
lend clear credibility to this claim.

JAPANESE
Middlebury College
The Japanese School is dedicated to serve the field by building
on Middlebury College's long-standing commitment to language
study. An immersion program is not a substitute for regular
college courses, or for time spent living in Japan. It is an
efficient, effective, and productive way to gain a strong foundation
in the language, or to quickly improve proficiency in all areas.
Many students have commented that they have gained as much from
a summer in Middlebury as they have from their experience of
living in Japan.

Japan-American Student Conference
The Japan-America Student Conference (JASC) is a non-profit
educational and cultural exchange program for university students
from the United States and Japan. It is the oldest student-run
exchange program in the United States, beginning with the first
JASC in 1934. JASC provides an opportunity for Japanese and
American students from diverse backgrounds to extensively discuss
issues that affect our two nations. By working together to confront
common concerns, our countries can improve mutual understanding,
friendship, and trust to strengthen our partnership. As students,
we stand in a unique position that permits us to cooperatively
observe and participate in contemporary politics and diplomacy.
Our student status also facilitates education, about ourselves
and also about others. As the leaders of the future, we must
begin an active, personal commitment to these goals now.
