Study in China this Summer. Get VU credit.

 

Valparaiso University China Center announces that it will offer three summer courses and an internship program in Hangzhou, China in summer 2004. The three courses are open to all majors while the internship program is open to communication majors only. Students who are interested in the program should complete and return the pre-registration application form to Professor Zhimin Lin as soon as possible.

 

Course Offerings (students can take one or more of these courses):

The three courses are:

- COMM 100, Survey of Communication Fields, Cr. 3, Professor Steinwart (Communication);
- ECON 221/222, Principles of Economics, Cr. 3, Professor Raman (Economics). This course fulfils social analysis requirement;
- FIN 282/392, Personal Finance, Cr. 3, Professor Jin (College of Business Administration.

The internship program is listed as, COMM 386, Cr. 3, Professor Steinwart

Time and Schedule: Participants of the summer program will leave for Beijing, China on May 18-19 and return to Chicago from Shanghai, China on June 24-25. The program will start with a three-day tour of Beijing, the capital of China, before arriving at Hangzhou, the provincial capital of Zhejiang and where the classes will be held. There will be four full weeks of classes with one field trip per week. The program will end with a two-day visit to Shanghai before the participants returning to the States.

Cost. All participants will pay VU summer session tuition, international travel, and a $100.00 study center to cover visa and travel insurance. Local accommodations including the tour of Beijing, visit to Shanghai, room and board, local transportation, and required field trips will be covered by the China Center.

Enrollment Limit: The enrollment of the three courses is limited to 16 each class while the internship program is limited to 6 students.

Application/Registration. To participate in the Program, students must first complete a pre-registration form. The form can be obtained from Professor Lin (330 Huegli Hall, x5749, Zhimin.lin@valpo.edu) or downloaded here. Professor Lin following the receipt of their applications will interview the applicants. The formal registration of the Program will be completed during the first half of the spring semester. To ensure a space in the Program, interested students should submit the application form as soon as possible.
