Study in China this Summer. Get VU credit.

 

Valparaiso University's China Center is pleased to announce that it will offer two summer courses and two internship programs in Hangzhou, China in summer 2005. The two courses are open to all majors. The internship programs are open to business/communication majors only. Students who are interested in the program should complete and return the pre-registration application form to Professor Zhimin Lin ASAP.

Course Offerings (students can take one or both courses):

The two courses are:
- CC325/POLS490/EAST390, Freedom, Cr. 3, Prof. Murphy (Christ College)
- FIN 282/392, Personal Finance, Cr. 3, Prof. Jin (Col. of Business Administration.)

The internship programs (all internships are located in Hangzhou) are:
- COMM 386, Supervised Internship, Cr. 3.
- MGT 395/397/398, Internship in Business Administration I, II & III, Cr. 0.5-2*

In addition, all participants will take EAST395, Chinese Culture and Civilization (Cr. 1). Part of the course will be taught before departure; the rest is completed in China.

Time and Schedule: Participants of the summer program will leave for Shanghai, China on May 16 or 17 and return to Chicago from Beijing, China on June 22 or 23. The program will start with a three-day tour of Shanghai before arriving at Hangzhou, the provincial capital of Zhejiang where the classes will be held. There will be four full weeks of classes with several field trips. The program will end with a four-day visit to Beijing, the capital of China before returning to the US.

Cost: All participants will pay regular VU summer tuition based on the number of the credit hours taken, international travel (about $900), and a $100 study center fee for visa application and travel insurance. The China Center will pay for the rest of the expenses including the trips to Shanghai and Beijing, room and board, local transportation, field trips, and other program related activities.

Enrollment Limit: The enrollment of the two regular courses is limited to 16 students in each class. The two internship programs are limited to five participants each.

Application/Registration: To participate in the program, students must first complete a pre-registration form. The form can be obtained from Prof. Lin (330 Huegli Hall, x5749, Zhimin.lin@valpo.edu) or downloaded here. Prof. Lin will interview interested students after they submit the applications. The formal registration will be completed during the spring semester.
