Study in China this Summer. Get VU credit.
Valparaiso University's China Center is pleased
to announce that it will offer two summer courses and three internship
programs in Hangzhou, China, in summer 2006. The two courses are
open to all majors. The internship programs are open to business/communication/ICP
majors only. Students who are interested in the program should
complete the pre-registration application form on the back of
this sheet and return it to Prof. Lin ASAP, as space is limited.
Course Offerings (students can take one or both courses):
The two courses are:
- ENGL365/CC325, Studies in American Literature: Landscapes
in Literature, Cr. 3, Prof. Ruff (English). May be used to fulfill
the fine arts component of the general education requirement.
- MGT440/EA390/ICP620, Cross-Cultural Management, Cr. 3,
Prof. Stück (Business Administration). May be used to fulfill
the Global Cultures and Perspective component of the general education
requirement. Prerequisite: Junior standing.
The internship programs (all located in Hangzhou) are:
- COMM 386, Supervised Internship, Cr. 3.
- MGT 395/397/398, Internship in Business Administration
I, II & III, Cr. 0.5-2*
- ICP686, ICP internship, Cr.3. Priority given to ICP/JD
candidates
Time and Schedule: Participants of the summer program
will leave for Shanghai, China on May 22 or 23 and return to Chicago
from China on June 29 or 30. The program will start with a three-day
tour of Shanghai before arriving at Hangzhou, the provincial capital
of Zhejiang where classes will be held. There will be four full
weeks of classes with several group field trips. The program will
end with a four-day visit to Beijing, the capital of China before
returning to Chicago.
Cost. All participants will be responsible for regular
VU summer tuition (based on the number of the credit hours taken),
international travel (about $950), meals (about $150-$200), and
a $100 study center fee to cover visa application and travel insurance.
The China Center will pay for the three-day trip to Shanghai,
four-day trip to Beijing, and the rooms in Hangzhou (four weeks).
Enrollment Limit: The enrollment of the 2006 Program is
limited to 25.
Application/Registration. To participate in the program, students
must first complete a pre-registration form on the other side
of this announcement. The form can be downloaded from the announcement
section of CJSP website: www.valpo.edu/cjsp. Prof. Lin will start
interviewing interested students after they submit the applications
in early October. The deadline to apply is December 31, 2005,
but applications will be considered on a first-come, first-serve
basis. The formal registration will be completed during the spring
semester. ICP students will also need to receive approval from
the Dean of Graduate Division.

* Open to business majors with junior standing. MGT395 must be
taken along with at least one of the regular courses. MGT397/398
