Special Circumstances

The A&S Dean’s Office can help students who encounter unexpected challenges and rare opportunities, as well as those who pursue unusual academic paths.

The Dean’s Office offers counsel and assistance for students in extraordinary circumstances. These may include illness, injury, personal loss, or other difficulties that can interrupt an academic career. The Dean’s Office helps students in these and similar situations recover from setbacks and continue their progress toward a degree.

Off the Beaten Path

Unusual academic circumstances aren’t restricted to problems: sometimes they arise when students discover new interests, encounter unusual opportunities for study or field experience, or envision plans of study that cross disciplinary lines. The Dean’s Office offers guidance for students seeking to change majors, pursue internships outside their majors, or declare individualized majors, and those in other circumstances in which academic plans diverge from published catalog requirements.
