Valparaiso University will celebrate the start of the new academic year with Opening Convocation at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 26, which will provide an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to greet colleagues, make new friends and have fun.
All new undergraduate, graduate and law students are invited to process together from Harre Union to the Chapel of the Resurrection through an assembly of the University's faculty and administrators. The procession will symbolize these students' arrival on campus and recognize them as members of the campus community.
President Mark Heckler said Opening Convocation creates a more memorable start to the academic year and supports greater interaction between students, faculty and staff.
“Opening Convocation is one of the primary opportunities for the entire Valpo family to come together each year, and it is one of the best opportunities for us to welcome the newest members of our community,” President Heckler said. “We hope these events help set Valparaiso University apart from many other institutions.”
A number of local restaurants from the community will provide food samples and coupons during the “Taste of Valpo” following Opening Convocation until 6:30 p.m. on the West Union Lawn.
