Education students in the classroom

About

The education department at Valparaiso University is dedicated to developing exceptional school professionals capable of becoming innovators and leaders in the field of K-12 education.

Educational institutions require collaboration among a number of professionals for the important, responsive work of educating young people. The education department at Valpo provides the opportunity for interested students to become leaders in education or in school psychology.

AN IMMEDIATE ENTRY INTO THE FIELD

From their first semester, Valpo students observe and learn in local schools. The curricula thoughtfully weave together theory and classroom teaching with integrated, supervised field experiences. By the final semester, students work full-time in their chosen field.

A COMMUNITY OF EDUCATORS

The education department intentionally creates collaborative communities within each of its programs and with regional professionals. With small class sizes and an intimate student-faculty ratio, faculty get to know and mentor students on an individual basis.

Valpo’s Professional Educators Partnership, or PEP, connects regional educators to thought leaders, current students, and one another. PEP’s three annual events bring nationally recognized speakers to campus and can attract more than 200 regional educators. Conferences are open to students and provide excellent networking opportunities right on campus.

A LIFE-CHANGING OPPORTUNITY

Tuition at Valpo is extremely affordable for one of the top institutions in the Midwest and lower than many other private universities in the region. The education department boasts job placement rates at or near 100 percent for all of its programs. In other words, investing in a Valpo education opens up a lifetime of meaningful work.
