James R. Beyreis (BSCE 1966)

Vice President, Engineering (Retired), Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.

James R. Beyreis held numerous positions at Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. during his 43-year career, including having served as Underwriters Laboratories’ chief engineer and as vice president of engineering for nearly two decades. The National Fire Protection Association recognized him with its Distinguished Service Award in 1996, and the Environmental Protection Agency honored him with its Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award in 1990. Beyreis is a fellow of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and a fellow of the William Henry Merrill Society of Underwriters Laboratories. He received his M.B.A. degree from Roosevelt University, and he is a registered professional engineer. Beyreis was the recipient of a 2007 VUAA Alumni Achievement Award.
