 • Majors: Mechanical Engineering and German

• Cooperative Education Placement in Germany (spring - summer 2007)

Intern (Praktikant)

DLR (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt)

Stuttgart, Germany

I worked with a group which dealt with the high temperature kinetics of combustion reactions at the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft und Raumfahrt (German Aerospace Center) in Stuttgart. For my internship, I studied the effect of hydrogen on the ignition delay times of a reference fuel by conducting shock tube experiments .

• Engineering Course Completed in Reutlingen

“ Schwingungslehre ” (Vibrations)

• Post-Graduation Plans

I plan to continue on to graduate school to learn more about computer aided design and analysis, or to enter the work force probably in the aerospace sector. When I enter the work force, I hope to have the opportunity to travel to Germany so that I can maintain my language skills.

• Reflections about VIEP

When I think back on my time abroad, I have a hard time believing that I was only away for a single year. My memories of the fall semester are a blur of different cities, countries, cultures, and languages. While the spring and summer weren't filled with quite as much travel, they were still full with work experience that resulted in greatly improved language skills and the satisfaction that I could handle working in a second language.
